Little Poncho Girl
This is an character and story I created. The story follows a little girl who jumps into a magical puddle that leads her to multiple different dimensions. Each new dimension she travels through represents a different aspect of life. Will this little girl make it back home safely?
The Character
This character has been someone I have drawn for many years. I would always doodle her in my sketchbooks and create world around her. I never had anything spectacular in mind for this character at first, but a story finally came to me.
Pitch Book
After writing a summary of the adventure this girl goes on I then created a short pitch book. The book describes the concept, characters, and different settings within the story. This book also includes the first few frames of the opening scene.
Website
After creating this pitch book I then went on to creating a multipage website version of that pitchbook which includes some content outside of the book, such as concept art.
Animation
This is a 12sec 80 frame animation I made for part of the story. I made this animation thinking about how it would look for the little girl to jump into a puddle. I made this animation by hand drawing each frame on paper and then scanning them in onto the computer.
Target
This is a project I started centering around the concept that African Americans and people of color constantly have a target on their back. This is a call to action piece. Urging individuals to take action and help make change because Black Lives Matter.
Posters
The posters are a set, containing a woman, girl, and a man. In the background there are a list of names that span all three posters. These names are the list of individuals killed by police and members of society. Since I have started this project many more names have been added to the list. Because the list continues to grow this will never be a complete project.
Augmented Reality
With the list of names in mind I decided to tell three stories. I created a keyframe animation for each poster that tells the story of a person on that list of names. Each poster tells a different story. I used AR to add an interactive element to this project. When you hold the phone or tablet up to the poster a video will appear on top of it.
Projection Mapping
The third element of this project is the projection mapping. I have various elements projected onto a mannequin head. The head is wrapped with a bandana to help represent a woman of color. Throughout the projection different elements appear and disappear. A target is seen within the video, it hovers over three names before locking in on the head. Those three names are represented by the people in the posters.
